Katherine is a partner in the firm’s Raleigh, North Carolina office. She has devoted her litigation practice to the defense of complex cases with significant damages exposure, including but not limited to medical malpractice and nursing home malpractice. As a trial lawyer, she spends a substantial amount of time in the courtroom and also maintains a statewide defense litigation practice.

Katherine has defended physicians, hospitals and other medical professionals on claims of professional malpractice for over 20 years. She has represented local medical providers and entities, as well as large national healthcare companies. Her professional clients also include long-term care facilities, mental health providers, physical therapy providers, anesthesia providers and dentists.

A significant portion of Katherine's practice includes the defense of birth injury, labor and delivery, obstetrical cases. These are complex cases with catastrophic damages exposure because of the nature of the medical care and potentially serious injuries to the infants. Katherine has extensive experience handling these cases, including taking these cases to trial. She is further particularly skilled in securing elite expert witnesses both on obstetrical standard of care issues, as well as complex causation and damages issues to explain to the jury the mechanism of injury, the condition of the child and the future care of the child.

Katherine’s practice also includes the defense of long-term care facilities and their employed providers on claims of negligence and professional malpractice, including cases that involve skin integrity, falls, nutrition, infection, elopement and other claims of malpractice and negligence.
