Ashley has been defending hospitals and other healthcare facilities, as well as physicians, nurses, and allied health professionals, in connection with claims of malpractice and related allegations since 1995. She also has been involved in the successful defense of birth injury and catastrophic injury cases in Georgia and numerous other states. She has served as monitoring counsel for the strategic defense of catastrophic injury cases in numerous states throughout the country. From time to time, defendants and their carriers consult Ashley on issues such as case evaluation, settlement value, witness preparation, expert witnesses, and jury strategies, and will hire her to attend and monitor trials of cases with the potential for catastrophic verdicts.
Ashley also has been involved in the successful defense of products liability cases arising in the healthcare setting, including those involving medical device and pharmaceutical products.
In addition to her litigation-related practice, Ashley has devoted a significant portion of her career to advising healthcare systems on a broad range of risk management and other issues that arise in their day-to-day operations and that create potential legal exposure. Hospitals and other health organizations frequently consult her on matters such as the investigation of incidents and events, best practices, communications between providers and patients, written policies and protocols, credentialing, disclosures, employment issues, medical records, consents, emergency orders for treatment, ethical issues, and biomedical issues.
