Daniel J. Huff

Mr. Huff was admitted to the Georgia Bar and began his practice in 1991. Since that time, he has concentrated his practice in the area of civil litigation, specializing in the defense of complex personal injury matters. Mr. Huff has extensive experience in the litigation and trial of cases involving death and catastrophic injury, including matters involving allegations of medical negligence, products liability, and premises liability. He has represented every specialty of medicine and is litigation counsel for several Hospitals in Atlanta and its adjacent counties. In addition to representing clients in civil litigation, Mr. Huff represents physicians in peer-review proceedings, hearings before the Composite Board of Medical Examiners and in hospital-based proceedings.

A founding member of the law firm of Huff, Powell & Bailey located in Atlanta, Mr. Huff prides himself on trying several jury trials each year. In the last two years, Mr. Huff successfully tried ten jury trials to defense verdicts.

In addition to his healthcare defense practice, Mr. Huff has defended individuals, small-businesses and large corporations in every area of “tort litigation” and has successfully tried several premises liability, breach of contract and intentional tort cases to verdict. He has successfully defended contractors and developers in construction and property damage claims and employers in state and federal employment actions.

From 2004 - 2009, Georgia Super Lawyers and Atlanta Magazine recognized Mr. Huff as being in the top 5% of practicing attorneys in Georgia for the defense of Civil Litigation cases. In the past two years, Mr. Huff was voted one of Georgia's top 100 lawyers.

Mr. Huff was elected into the prestigious American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) in 2002, and is a long-standing member of the Atlanta Bar Association, the State Bar of Georgia, the Defense Research Institute, and the Lawyers Club of Atlanta. Mr. Huff has received the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyer Saturday Program 5-year award (1998), and has served as local counsel for the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights.

Mr. Huff is a leading authority on the defense of healthcare providers in healthcare litigation. He has filed briefs and argued on behalf of the Medical Association of Georgia and the Georgia Hospital Association on healthcare-related issues before the Georgia Court of Appeals and Supreme Court.

Mr. Huff regularly speaks to attorneys and community groups about trials, civil litigation, medical malpractice and catastrophic injury cases. Mr. Huff has spoken twice in the last year to attorneys in Georgia on changes to Georgia's Joint Tortfeasor law in programs sponsored by Georgia's Institute of Continuing Legal Education. He also authors an article on Legal Issues for Physicians in the Medical Association of Georgia Journal, published quarterly. He has lectured on subjects such as "Advanced Trial Advocacy in Georgia," "Myocardial Infarction: What is it, how do you diagnose it and how do you defend it?," "Advanced Issues in Medical Malpractice Cases in Georgia," "Jury Selection in the Medical Malpractice Case," "Psychiatric Malpractice and the Confidentiality of Mental Health Information," "Therapists' Liability for Disclosing Privileged Communications," "Recent Developments in Professional Liability Law," "Medical Malpractice in Georgia," "Taking Effective Depositions in Georgia," "Documentation Issues and Charting for the Future in Georgia," "Nursing Law in Georgia," "Nursing Home Liability," and other similar topics.
